The Concrete Rose Scholarship Foundation will host a back-to-school fundraiser and supply drive on Thursday, Aug. 21, at Slaters Market, located at 1552 Potomac Greens Drive in Alexandria.

Flights in and out of Reagan National Airport in the Washington, D.C., area resumed around midday Monday after a morning fire alarm in the control tower halted all traffic.

The Federal Aviation Administration said flights into the airport continued to be delayed more than half an hour into midafternoon because of heavy traffic after flights were stopped between 10:45 a.m. and noon.

Alexandria’s extended public poll on the Duke Street Land Use Plan wraps today.

Hundreds of people have participated in the poll, according to the city. Once completed, the plan will guide city officials in the development of the Duke Street Corridor from the former Landmark Mall to Alexandria Union Station. The plan is expected to be ready for City Council consideration and adoption in late 2026/early 2027, according to the city.

Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire addressed preliminary facts surrounding the in-custody death of Alan Tucker II during a press conference Sunday evening, emphasizing that multiple independent investigations are underway.

Tucker, 32, of Woodbridge, died Friday evening after experiencing what McGuire described as a medical emergency in the sally port of the Alexandria jail following his arrest for public intoxication.

Get ready to dance, because the third annual Wilderness Kids Alexandria Music Festival is around the corner.
