❄️ Today’s weather: Expect snow mainly before 1pm with a high near 32, and a northeast wind at 6-9 mph becoming northwest later. The chance of precipitation is 90%, with 1-3 inches of new snow accumulation possible. Friday night, there’s a slight chance of snow before 1am, with clouds clearing gradually and a low of 19. The northwest wind will be 9-11 mph and the chance of precipitation is 20%.


Somebody in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is making the proper sacrifices to the snow gods: Alexandria students and teachers will have another snow day tomorrow (Friday).

Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt said the school system will have another snow day tomorrow — i.e. no virtual learning will take place — after getting one earlier this week on Tuesday. With MLK Day on Monday, ACPS students only attended classes on Wednesday and Thursday.


The proposed Potomac Yard arena, a collaboration between various government leaders and Monumental Sports & Entertainment, has gotten more than a little community pushback.

Now, Monumental Sports is counterattacking with a new website, called Monumental Opportunity, which claims to “provide project facts and information” and “correct misconceptions.”

An Alexandria man was charged with felonious assault after allegedly stabbing an acquaintance inside his West End apartment on Wednesday.

The incident was reported Wednesday morning (Jan. 17) at around 7 a.m. in an apartment in the 300 block of S. Reynolds Street, according to the Alexandria Police Department. Harvey Lewis, Jr., 67, was arrested after allegedly stabbing an acquaintance in the leg. The victim was treated at Inova Alexandria Hospital for a non-life threatening wound.

Titan Robotics kicked off its tenth season earlier this month.

On Saturday, Jan. 20, Turkish Coffee Lady (1001 King Street) will distribute Turkish coffee cups from 9 a.m.-8 p.m.

🌨️ Today’s weather: The weather will be mostly cloudy with a high near 37 degrees, accompanied by calm winds which will gradually shift to south at 6 mph. Thursday night, snow is likely after 1 am, making the sky cloudy and bringing the temperature to a low of about 30 degrees. Winds will remain light and variable with a 60% chance of precipitation. New snow accumulation could reach up to half an inch.


Alexandria’s DASH bus system is seeking state funding for a project to add new information screens inside the city’s buses.

A pilot program would install information screens that would help show things like upcoming stops, transfer connections, service alerts and more.


(Updated 3:35 p.m.) Early voting will start on Friday, Jan. 19, for the dual Presidential primaries.

The primaries are scheduled for March 5. The deadline for early voting is March 2.


A Del Ray restaurant is planning on expanding its footprint with a 750-square foot patio addition.

Noe Landini, owner of Junction Bakery & Bistro (1508 Mount Vernon Avenue), wants to build on the northern end of the restaurant on a repurposed area of the parking lot used for outdoor seating the last several years.
