Nine new townhomes and four semi-detached dwellings are being proposed for a half-acre property used for an office building and warehouse in the Old Town Historic District.

The Alexandria Planning Commission will be presented with the proposal to build on the two parcels at 107 and 125 N. West Street. The location is about a half-block from King Street, and is near Jefferson Houston Elementary School and the King St. Metro station.


There’s pawsitive news for dog owners: Alexandrians can officially adopt more than three dogs.

At a City Council meeting this weekend, the city amended its ordinance to increase the limit on the number of dogs per dwelling unit from three to five.


Sarah Bagley says that Alexandria residents have invested time and energy into making her an effective member of the Alexandria City Council, and she says she’s running for reelection to honor that investment.

A lot has changed in the city since Bagley was first elected and then virtually sworn in in January 2022. Alexandria was on the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic and has since gone through a crime surge, the introduction and the failure of the Potomac Yard arena deal, a number of key changes in departmental leadership (namely the police and fire chiefs) as well as the controversial upending of the city’s residential zoning policies.


The City of Alexandria wants Old Town residents to make some noise.

The Alexandria is hosting a virtual open house this month to discuss South of Airport Noise Mitigation Project, a project aimed at developing recommendations to modify flight procedures to reduce aircraft noise impacts on communities south of National Airport.

It’s been a busy week in Alexandria! There was some conversation and contention about the top story: King Street being ranked by Architectural Digest as one of the 71 most beautiful streets in the world.

“Architectural Digest out here just telling bold face lies,” one commentor said, while another called King Street the jewel of the city.


Two Alexandria teens have been charged after an 18-year-old was stabbed, tased and beaten in a West End parking lot last month, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The 16 and 17-year-old suspects were charged with malicious wounding by mob and destruction of property after the May 12 (Sunday) incident that left the 18-year-old victim with a knife wound to his leg.


The Alexandria Police Department says that the man who died of a gunshot wound early Wednesday morning in the Inova Alexandria Hospital parking lot was shot in D.C. and has turned the investigation over to the Metropolitan Police Department.

APD also canceled the “be-on-the-lookout” alert for the dark gray four-door Mercedes that dropped off the victim at around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Inova Alexandria Hospital (4320 Seminary Road). He was found suffering outside the hospital entrance at around 3 a.m. and died while being treated by hospital staff.


Alexandria has kicked off registration for a ticket hotter than Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour: affordable Alexandria preschools.

Affordable childcare and preschool programs are in high demand around Alexandria. The ALX Preschool network is a coordinated enrollment system that can link families up to one of 16 public and private preschool providers in the city.
