Alexandria’s been seeking public feedback on proposed short-term rental regulations and has started to make changes to the proposed regulation based on feedback.

Namely, city staff said in a presentation that the proposed requirement that an operator/local agent live within 15 miles of the city has been removed.


After nearly three years of construction, Inova Health Center — Oakville will be unveiled in a ribbon cutting on Thursday (Oct. 31).

The $300 million Oakville Triangle project at the corner of Swann Avenue and Richmond Highway includes more than 1 million square feet of residential space dedicated to apartments and townhomes, the new 93,000-square-foot health center (400 Fannon Street) with a comprehensive emergency room and 55,000 square feet of retail.


Medics were called to Alexandria City High School this morning after a fight left a student with an injured jaw.

According to the scanner, a 15-year-old was injured in an assault. A School Resource Officer called it in and told medics the student was suffering from jaw pain.

Every day, countless Alexandria City High School students walk between campuses across one of the busiest intersections in the city, and city leaders said Alexandria’s been very lucky no one has been hurt yet.

Damage from a grease fire has shut down the McDonald’s at 121 W. Glebe Road in the city’s Arlandria neighborhood, according to the Alexandria Fire Department.

Walls, ceiling panels, vents and the roof were damaged in the Oct. 18 (Friday) blaze, according to AFD. The fire in the frier area was reported to AFD by an employee at around 7:15 p.m. The fire was contained in about 35 minutes and AFD was on-scene for an hour, according to dispatch reports.

In a game last night against the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels threw a game-winning pass that was caught by wide receiver Noah Brown.


The leaves are falling around Alexandria, and starting today: the city is making the rounds to pick them up.

“The City of Alexandria will begin its annual leaf vacuuming and leaf bag collection program today, October 28,” the city said in a release. “Leaf collection is expected to continue through mid-January.”


Alexandria City Public Schools has taken a step forward in crafting school policy around artificial intelligence.

The district formed an “AI Impact team” earlier this summer, taking a proactive approach to determine how AI can be used to the benefit of the schools, a report said.


Somebody must have said Beetlejuice’s name too many times, because he was all over the 28th annual Del Ray Halloween Parade on Sunday (Oct. 27).

Thousands of costumed heroes, villains and characters paraded down Mount Vernon Avenue. The weather was crisp — about 60 degrees in the sun, and like an early indication of the days to come felt considerably cooler in the shade.
