Mae’s Market and Virginia’s Darling in Old Town closing

Alexandria restaurants Virginia’s Darling and Mae’s Market and Cafe Alexandria will be closing over the next month.

Owner Nicole Jones, who also owned Stomping Ground in Del Ray, said on Facebook that the businesses were unable to reach a favorable lease agreement with their landlord.

“Our relationship has been nothing but favorable,” the restaurant said, “we simply were unable to make the economics work for both parties.”

Virginia’s Darling will close on Dec. 28 and Mae’s Market and Cafe Alexandria will close on Jan. 19 while the Mae’s Market in Arlington will remain open.

“We invite you to join us in celebrating these final days together,” the restaurant said. “Come share one last meal, enjoy a favorite dish and help us say goodbye in the way that has always felt right — together, around our itsy bitsy tables.”
