Alexandria City High School has been placed on ‘hold status’ until dismissal today “due to a number of altercations in the school building,” Principal Alexander Duncan said in a message to parents.

According to Duncan, the hold status means there is limited movement inside classrooms and hallways and after school activities — except for a concert at 7:30 p.m. this evening — are cancelled.

The letter from Duncan is shared below:

Dear Alexandria City High School Staff and Families:

For the safety and security of our students and staff, Alexandria City High School (ACHS) – King Street Campus has been placed on a hold status until dismissal today due to a number of altercations in the school building.

A hold is used when it is necessary to restrict movement within the school or building to support security posturing. During a hold, there is limited movement inside the classrooms and hallways to allow for a more controlled transition. As a result, the school day has been impacted until the hold status can be lifted.

Update on After School Activities:

  • Please note that all after school activities at the King Street Campus will be cancelled for today with the exception of the concert that is planned for this evening at 7:30p.m. at King Street will proceed as planned.

Please note: We will follow up with another letter soon to provide information about dismissal and transportation.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is currently on site to provide an additional security presence. We appreciate the work of the APD and the additional support that APD has provided on the campus to support the ACHS team.

The safety and security of our students and staff is the most important priority.

Sincerely,

Alexander Duncan, Executive Principal

Alexandria City High School
