Carpenter’s Shelter, a local nonprofit supporting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, is hosting a ribbon-cutting next month for a newly renovated shelter in the Carlyle neighborhood.
Carpenter’s Shelter assumed operations at building at 2355-B Mill Road back in December, 2023 and converted the former Department of Community and Human Services building into a 64-bed shelter. According to the release:
Susanna Sullivan, named “America’s fastest teacher” by Runner’s World, is the grand marshal of the 49th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot.
Sullivan is a sixth grade math teacher in Falls Church and five-time Turkey Trot winner (setting a course record three times). She’s also a world-class runner, finishing seventh in the Chicago Marathon this year (she was also the fastest American runner) and 10th in the London Marathon in 2023.

Winds will be calm, becoming east at 6 mph in the afternoon and there’s a 40% chance of precipitation. On Wednesday night, there will be showers and thunderstorms before 4am, followed by a chance of showers, and a low around 43. The east wind at 5-10 mph will become northwest at 12-17 mph in the evening and may gust up to 34 mph. Precipitation chance is 90%, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
A man was injured in a food truck fire in Arlandria on Tuesday night (Nov. 19).
The food truck was parked outside the AutoZone Auto Parts at 3705 Mount Vernon Avenue when the fire was reported at around 9:30 p.m.
Outdoor dining is officially coming to Oakville Triangle.
On Saturday, City Council unanimously an ordinance to allow outdoor dining on the sidewalk at 461 Swann Avenue for Founding Farmers.
