Alexandria City High School was placed on “secure the building” status earlier today when police received an anonymous phone call of a person with a firearm in the parking lot of the King Street campus (3330 King Street).

Executive Principal Alexander Duncan III sent the following note to parents:


On the heels of being named the most progressive legislator in Virginia, Alexandria Delegate Elizabeth Bennett-Parker (D-5th) just filed paperwork for a third two-year term in office.

Alexandria’s DASH bus system wants to expand its free service into the city’s Arlandria neighborhood.

The proposed changes are included in an update of the transit system’s 10-year strategic plan, now in its community review process until April 18. The public feedback on four alternatives will be reviewed by the DASH board of directors on May 14.

A man’s body was discovered floating by the pier at Jones Point Park today in Old Town.

The Alexandria Police Department says that it is conducting a death investigation. A park security officer discovered the body near the shore just at around 12:15 p.m., according to APD dispatches.
