The Torpedo Factory Art Center will host its 30th annual Art Safari on Saturday, Oct. 25, from noon to 4 p.m., offering free hands-on activities for children and families.

The event features art projects led by Art Center artists on all three floors of the waterfront facility. Activities are designed for children aged 5 to 12, although younger children can participate with adult assistance.


A watch party and fundraiser will celebrate the season two premiere of “Neighborhood Favorites with George Worrell” on Monday at Cooper Mill in Old Town Alexandria.

The event runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 10 Duke Street. Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins will serve as special guest and deliver a welcome address.


The City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts will host a reception with Richmond-based artist Sandy Williams IV on Oct. 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Torpedo Factory Art Center.

The event takes place in the Overlook Room, 105 N. Union St., third floor, Room 325. Remarks begin at 7 p.m.

This handsome brown-and-white “low rider” came to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) as a local stray in need of medical care. After recovering in a loving foster home, the 32-pound boy has blossomed into a playful, curious companion who’s ready for his forever family.


Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site will host Civil War Artillery Day on Saturday, featuring living history demonstrations and cannon firing displays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The free program will showcase the role of Union artillerymen who defended Washington, D.C., during the Civil War. Reenactors from the 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery, a regiment historically stationed at Fort Ward, will demonstrate the duties and daily life of soldiers who manned the Defenses of Washington.


Old Town Cocktail Week will run Sept. 25 through Oct. 6, featuring specialty cocktails at more than 40 restaurants and four curated events throughout Alexandria’s historic district.

Suntory Global Spirits presents the event in partnership with Captain Gregory’s. Participating restaurants will offer signature cocktails designed to highlight Alexandria’s cocktail scene, according to organizers.
