Thieves target Inova at Landmark construction site for copper wire

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the theft of copper and security wire from the Inova Alexandria Hospital at Landmark construction site.

No arrests have been made, but around 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 30, the senior superintendent of Clark Construction reported a burglary to APD. Just 10 minutes before, at 4:05 p.m., surveillance footage showed a white U-Haul cargo van drive into the construction site and two male suspects enter one of the hospital buildings under construction, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

“The property security fence was tampered with to allow the suspects to enter [the] site, and metal lock boxes containing construction materials were broken into,” APD said in the affidavit.

The following was stolen from the site:

  • Twelve 2,500-foot reels of #10 stranded copper wire
  • Four 1,000-foot reels of #8 stranded copper wire
  • Eleven 500-foot boxes of Windy City Wire composite cable security wire
  • Twelve 1,250-foot reels of #10 stranded copper wire

No arrests have been made in connection to the incident, which remains under investigation. The affidavit did not indicate the value of the materials stolen.

This is the second reported theft of copper from Inova at Landmark, following the theft of approximately $100,000 worth of construction materials in April.
