USPTO cafeteria reopens to the public with chef-curated menus

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s cafeteria has reopened under new management, coinciding with a busy season at the federal campus that recently welcomed the National Science Foundation.

USPTO’s Roundhouse Café officially reopened to the public March 30 at 600 Dulany Street in Carlyle, offering sushi, a made-to-order deli, salad bar, self-serve hot entrées and a hot bar, the agency announced. The venue plans to serve a rotating variety of “chef-curated” menus, seasonal promotions and guest restaurants.

Roundhouse Café also plans to host chef’s tables, where groups can watch and interact with chefs while they prepare a meal. Additionally, local food trucks will be on site on select days.

“Everything is leading edge at America’s Innovation Agency – even the culinary arts,” John A. Squires, the under secretary of commerce for intellectual property and director of USPTO, said in a release. “We’re delighted to bring more excitement, flare and flavor [to] our space, especially as our campus is bustling with our new neighbors and friends at the National Science Foundation.”

The reopened café is under new management from Eurest, whose clientele includes “premier healthcare systems, respected educational institutions, world-renowned cultural centers, popular sporting and entertainment venues.”

Daily breakfast at Roundhouse Café is from 7-9:30 a.m., followed by lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on weekdays. Hours at Roundhouse Coffee are 7 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.

The café is not the only new development at USPTO’s campus. The National Science Foundation recently relocated from its Eisenhower Avenue building — where the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is moving — and the Henry E. Baker Public Search Facility has reopened following renovations inside the Madison Building.

“We’ve reimagined it to include: a location for highlighting historical artifacts and information, dedicated conferencing space, and flexible event space to accommodate up to 250 people at a time,” USPTO said in a release.

Later this spring, the agency plans to host “USPTO Day” to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The semiquincentennial kickoff is scheduled for May 14, followed by a “pre-July 4th celebration” on July 1.
