Weekend Metro closures affecting Blue and Yellow Lines start tomorrow

Ten weekends of Metro closures between Pentagon City and Reagan National Airport start tomorrow (Saturday), affecting Blue and Yellow Line trains departing and entering Alexandria.

Metrorail service will be suspended between those stations for a three-day weekend between Feb. 14-16, with free shuttle buses connecting the stations. During impacted weekends, both lines are expected to operate in “two segments” outside the closed stations every 12 minutes.

On three of those weekends, trains will not operate between Pentagon City and Braddock Road stations.

Shuttle buses will operate every 8 to 10 minutes and are expected to take “approximately 20 minutes depending on traffic,” according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

During this time, customers will still be able to travel south into Virginia from the airport via Metro Rail,” WMATA said in a press release. “Customers traveling to the airport from north of Pentagon City should plan extra time to connect to the free shuttle buses.”

Construction extending to Braddock Road

On three of the impacted weekends in March and May, the construction zone will extend to the Braddock Road station — not to Potomac Yard, as previously announced, according to the release.

Shuttles on these weekends will only make stops at three stations: Pentagon City, Reagan National Airport and Braddock Road.

The closures are planned to accommodate the construction of a second entrance at the Crystal City station in Arlington, which will be closed for all ten affected weekends.

Crystal City’s station will close for the following weekends.

  • Feb. 14-16 (three-day closure)
  • Feb. 21-22
  • Feb. 28 to March 1
  • March 7-8
  • May 9-10
  • May 16-17
  • May 30-31
  • June 6-7
  • June 13-14
  • June 19-21 (three-day closure)

Crystal City, Ronald Reagan National Airport and Potomac Yard stations will close on the following three weekends, with connector shuttles extending to Braddock Road.

  • March 7-8
  • May 9-10
  • May 16-17

The second entrance at Crystal City is expected to debut in spring 2027.
