It’s been a busy week in Alexandria, especially with the grand opening of the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus today and a brief derailment by a protest against Virginia Tech’s ties to defense contractors like BAE Systems and Boeing.
Just wanted to take a quick aside to note that this has been my last week as editor of ALXnow. I helped launch the site with my friend Sloane back in 2019. This week, Local News Now LLC announced a new partnership with award-winning news publisher, editor and journalist Ryan Belmore — who also writes the Things To Do in Alexandria This Weekend column.
Belmore will be taking over as ALXnow publisher and has exciting ideas about how to make the site more engaging. James Cullum will be returning from paternity leave on March 6 and will remain with ALXnow while I’ve been reassigned as lead reporter at ARLnow and FFXnow.
The site could not be in better hands and there’s exciting stuff ahead for ALXnow. Most of all, though, a big thank you to readers on the site over the last six years who have helped keep local news alive in Condé Nast Traveler’s third best small city in America.
