Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) has renewed its contract with Tutor.com, marking ten years of partnership with the online tutoring program, the Alexandria Times reported.
The program gives all ACPS students in grades six through 12 free and unlimited access to tutoring in over 60 subjects. The program also allows students to submit essays for review to tutors before turning them in to receive feedback on their writing.
The Alexandria Times said Tutor.com usage is voluntary and not formally tracked, but teachers have shared stories about student essays dramatically improving with the extra review. The Alexandria Times reported that math is the most popular subject with Tutor.com.
ACPS started working with Tutor.com in 2015.
Izora Everson, Director of Online Learning at ACPS, told the Alexandria Times that ACPS has been “phenomenal” and they had zero complaints about the program except that she wished tutoring was offered in more languages. Currently, tutoring is only offered in English and Spanish, while Amharic and Arabic are also common in ACPS.
