After Alexandria got somewhat snubbed in a recent Washington Post restaurant ranking, the paper recently released a new ranking of 9 of the best restaurants in Alexandria.

At the very top of that ranking — no surprise — is Feru Bar and Restaurant, the Ethiopian restaurant that was also the only Alexandria spot on the regional ranking. The little restaurant at 512-D S. Van Dorn Street is a favorite of Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema.

While there are several Old Town restaurants, the ranking also admirably hits a few other spots around the city, like shoutouts to Taqueria Picoso (1472 N. Beauregard Street) and Kungfu Kitchen (3221 Duke Street).

“If it’s brutal Chinese winter-proofing cuisine you seek, Carman suggests pulling up a chair at this temple to hearty cooking perfected halfway around the world,” the ranking said. “Co-owners Teang Liu and Amy Liang, who both hail from the Jilin province in northeastern China, strive to re-create the flavor-packed dishes that warmed them from within during the most frigid days of their youth.”
