While the Olympics are ostensibly a competition between nations, the Washington Post and Arlington County Board Member Maureen Coffey noted the real meaning for the event: yet another battle between Arlington and neighboring Alexandria.

Both localities send hometown heroes to the Olympics, but Arlingtonian Torri Huske helped her county prevail with three gold medals and two silver in swimming events.

Alexandrian Noah Lyles took home the gold medal in the Men’s 100m race and took bronze in the 200m race despite being diagnosed with Covid just before the race. Christian Tabash adds one bronze to Alexandria’s tally, but Arlington still prevails for the 2024 Olympics.
