Notes: Alexandria launches questionnaire for new housing zoning overhaul

Good Wednesday morning, Alexandria!

☀️ Today’s weather: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. North wind around 5 mph. At night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 54. South wind 5 to 14 mph becoming north in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

🚨 You need to know

ALXnow isn’t the only one doing a public survey: the City of Alexandria launched a new questionnaire for the new Zoning for Housing/Housing for All initiative.

The Zoning for Housing/Housing for All initiative is a an ambitious overhaul of the city’s zoning code with an eye toward rebuilding it from the ground up with an emphasis on affordability and equity.

The Zoning for Housing side of things focuses on expanding housing production and affordability in general.

The Housing for All component, meanwhile, looks at the history of discriminatory housing policies that can still be seen in home ownership across the city. The goal of the initiative is to try to mitigate the effects of past exclusionary zoning.

The change comes at an interesting — if contentious — time for housing zoning discussions. In Arlington earlier this year, the County Board voted on changes that would allow multifamily structures in what was formerly considered single-family zoning.

Alexandria’s questionnaire asks what types of housing the city needs more of and opinions on whether the city needs to expand the range of affordability.

The questionnaire is open until Monday, June 19.

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
