Susanna Sullivan, named “America’s fastest teacher” by Runner’s World, is the grand marshal of the 49th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot.

Sullivan is a sixth grade math teacher in Falls Church and five-time Turkey Trot winner (setting a course record three times). She’s also a world-class runner, finishing seventh in the Chicago Marathon this year (she was also the fastest American runner) and 10th in the London Marathon in 2023.

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin dedicated a fully-stocked laundry room at Mount Vernon Community School on Friday.

McLaurin launched the nonprofit “Terry’s Locker” earlier this year with the goal of helping kids not worry about wearing dirty clothes.

Thousands of runners, walkers and their dogs are expected to participate in the 49th annual Turkey Trot in Del Ray on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 28.

The five-mile contest is touted as the “premier D.C. area Thanksgiving race” by the Del Ray Business Association. It started in 1975 with just 244 runners, and has since grown to 6,000+ participants.

Olympic champion Noah Lyles received a hero’s welcome back home in Alexandria today.

The 27-year-old was greeted by city and school leaders, as well as hundreds of cheering fans at his alma mater, Alexandria City High School.

The world’s fastest man is coming home to Alexandria next Sunday (Sept. 22).

Alexandria native Noah Lyles will return to Alexandria after winning the gold medal in the 100 meters in a photo-finish and bronze in the 200m at the Paris Olympics. There will be a rally celebration in his honor at Chinquapin Park and in Alexandria City High School’s gymnasium starting at 3 p.m.

Washington Wizards forward Anthony Gill handed out 200 stuffed backpacks to fourth and fifth graders at Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School in Alexandria’s West End this afternoon.

The event is one of many from team owner Monumental Sports and Entertainment was part of a regional giveaway at schools in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. In Alexandria, the students at Tucker also received a free book from MahoganyBooks, a Wizards t-shirt, and an autographed card.

The badly cracked and damaged tennis courts at Potomac Yard Park are being closed for repairs starting on Friday, Aug. 16.

The two tennis courts in the park are in rough shape, with ruptures running the length of the asphalt. The Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities said in a release that the courts will be closed from Friday, Aug. 16, through Saturday, Aug. 31, for repairs.
