Hundreds of Alexandrians watched and cheered as hometown racing champion Noah Lyles won a bronze medal in the 200 meters in the Paris Olympics on Thursday.

Letsile Tebogo of Botswana won the race with a time of 19.46 seconds, U.S. sprinter Kenny Bednarek earned silver with 19.52 and Lyles got third with 19.70.

Alexandria’s Christian Tabash rowed to a bronze medal in the men’s eight final in the Paris Olympics on Saturday (Aug.3).

The 25-year-old and his seven American teammates (and a coxswain) clocked in with a time of 5:25:28 in the 2,000-meter race along the Seine River, behind the Netherlands’ 5:23:92 and Great Britain’s gold medal-winning performance of 5:22:88.

Two watch parties have been organized in the city to witness the fastest man on the planet, Alexandria native Noah Lyles, race in the 100 meter and 200 meter finals in the Paris Olympics.

It’s the second consecutive Olympics that a watch party will be held at Alexandria City High School (ACHS). The 26-year-old Lyles graduated from ACHS in 2016, and won the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics in the 200m. He’s a three-time world champion in the race, winning in 2019, 2022 and 2023.

The brewery and taproom at 2429 Mandeville Lane said it will extend its happy hour deals for prime-time Olympic coverage. This year’s Olympics, held in Paris, are scheduled to kick off tomorrow (Friday) and continue through Sunday, Aug. 11.

Alexandria’s Christian Tabash is rowing with Team USA in the upcoming Paris Olympics, and says that the games are the culmination of a lifelong dream.

Tabash has been training in Italy with his team, and stopped to talk for a few minutes with ALXnow. He’s lived in Alexandria with his family since 2017, and rowed four years on the varsity team of Gonzaga College High School in D.C., and then for four years at Harvard University where he earned a degree in government. He was selected to be on Team USA’s men’s eight rowing team at the end of March.

The Alexandria Little League All-Star Intermediates are state champs.

Alexandria’s top 13-and-under players won the Virginia State Championship on July 10, defeating the Broadway Community Little League 10-0 at Eugene Simpson Park.

Alexandria native Noah Lyles won the 200 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials on June 29, and will represent the U.S. in that race and the 100 meters in the upcoming Olympic games in Paris, France.

The 26-year-old Lyles ran the 200 meters in 19.53 seconds — the fastest time in the world this year.

Noah Lyles is heading to Paris. After winning his final 100 meters at the Olympic trials on Saturday with a time of 9.83 seconds, the Alexandria native and world champion sprinter is heading to his second consecutive Olympic games.

Lyles ran a personal best in the race.

Alexandria sprinter Kai Cole won’t be running in the U.S. Olympic trials this weekend, even though he’s fast enough.

In a message posted on social media Thursday, Cole said that his qualifying time of 10.05 seconds in the 100 meter dash at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s outdoor track and field championships last month was rejected by USA Track & Field.

Alexandria’s Troy “The Transformer” Isley is on a quest to be the middleweight champion of the world.

Undefeated after 12 fights with five knockouts, Isley will face his former amateur rival Javier Martinez (10-0-1, 3 KOs) for the North American Boxing Association‘s title at The Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The fight will be broadcast live and exclusively on ESPN+.
