The Alexandria Little League All-Star Intermediates are state champs.

Alexandria’s top 13-and-under players won the Virginia State Championship on July 10, defeating the Broadway Community Little League 10-0 at Eugene Simpson Park.

Eight teams of 13-and-under players from across Virginia participated in the tournament. This is the second state title for the team since 2017.

“This team is resilient,” said Alexandria team manager Mike Coughlin. “We had to play from behind in our first three games, and the boys remained calm and played stronger together.”

Alexandria’s All Stars now move on to the 2024 Southeast Region Tournament in Kernersville, North Carolina, which is being held from July 19 to 22.

“It was an action-packed tournament, hosting talented teams from across the state at Simpson field,” said Laura Engel, president of Alexandria Little League. “We couldn’t be more excited about what this signals about the growth of baseball in the City of Alexandria.”
