Port City Brewing Company is preparing to re-launch an ale celebrating one of Alexandria’s most enduring mysteries.
Long Black Veil, a black India pale ale, is a spooky black beer inspired by the legend of the Female Stranger.

The holiday event is set for Sunday, November 24 from 12-6 p.m. at Port City Brewing Company (3950 Wheeler Avenue).
A Look at the Cannabidiol Store in Old Town — “The Zebra wanted to find out the latest on the CBD craze and visited Your CBD Store at 301 S. Washington Street! Shells Karle opened the shop in May. Port City Brewing Company is putting your murderous knowledge to the test with its annual Serial Killer Trivia tonight (Thursday) from 7-9 p.m.
If you’ve ever thought “I want to drink beer outdoors, with other people, but I also want to hang out with my dog,” Port City has the event for you.
Dogtoberfest, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19, is a free event planned in the parking lot of Port City Brewing Company’s brewery at 3950 Wheeler Avenue.
Port City Brewing and Gadsby’s Tavern Museum are gearing up to host a special night in memory of the mysterious woman who once perished on the shores of Alexandria.
The two local institutions are pairing up to for an event for “foodies and history nerds alike,” per the city’s website. Attendees can learn about the story of a woman who arrived sick on a ship in 1816 and whose husband swore the local doctor to secrecy about their identity — only inscribing “Female Stranger” on her gravestone after she died in Gadsby’s Tavern on October 14, 1816.
Inside the industrial halls of Alexandria’s Port City Brewing Company, some new brews are in the works and the return of an old favorite planned.
The brewery is preparing to release Tmavé Pivo, a dark Czech lager. The beer will be a draft release only, with interested parties invited to Czech it out on Friday, Oct. 11, from 3-10 p.m. in Port City’s headquarters at 3950 Wheeler Avenue. Those bringing their own growlers and crowlers can collect some Tmavé Pivo to take home.
