The Alexandria Democratic Committee isn’t happy that Virginia Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner recently voted for a number of President Donald Trump’s new cabinet secretaries.

At its March meeting last week, the ADC passed a resolution asking the Democratic lawmakers to withhold future support in all forms.

Last night the Trump administration announced a halt on federal grants and loans, a move 8th district Rep. Don Beyer called “blatantly illegal and unconstitutional.”

The White House clarified that the new order would “clamp down on foreign aid and funding for diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI. Washington Post reported that states have had issues accessing Medicaid and Head Start funding.

While largely liberal Alexandria has had a tense relationship with Republicans in the past, Gov. Glenn Youngkin included footage of Old Town in a video aimed at bringing Trump administration staffers to live in Virginia.

“To the new members of the President Trump administration moving to the area, I want to personally you to make Virginia your home,” Youngkin said in the 30 second video. Virginia is right across the Potomac. We offer a great quality of life, safe communities, award-winning schools where parents matter and lower taxes than DC or Maryland. ”

Alexandria School Board members sternly responded to recent criticism leveled at the Board and school system staff.

Without singling out the offending School Board member by name, Board Chair Michelle Rief, Vice Chair Kelly Carmichael Booz and Member Christopher Harris on Thursday night admonished Board Member Abdel Elnoubi for his comments at a City Council candidate debate on Oct. 16.
