Shadow is looking for a new home. The a seven-year-old black short-haired cat has made fast friends at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

“Shadow is a cat with a job and is certainly serving as the ‘office mew-nager for our adoptions and care team,” AWLA spokesperson Gina Hardter told ALXnow. “Her paws-on leadership technique means that she might sometimes be watching you over your shoulder, but she’s more likely to be supervising from your lap.”

Tobi needs a new set of wheels. The five-year-old Mini-Australian Shepherd was born without front legs, and his Alexandria owner has launched a GoFundMe campaign so that he can get a $2,350 wheelchair.

Alexandria resident Paige Bradford adopted Tobi from The Humane Society of North Texas in 2018. She’s an elementary school special education teacher in Arlington, and said that Tobi is also an emotional support animal.

Bonded buddies Cookie and Chispin are inseparable, and the pair are looking to be adopted from the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

Cookie, a 12-year-old terrier mix, reportedly likes nothing more than to hang out with her closest companion, Chispin, a 10-year-old female hound mix.

Animal Welfare League gets 50 cats from Texas shelters — “Among the lingering effects of the winter outages is the strain on animal shelters. According to AWLA, the Texas shelters are seeing a surge in surrendered pets. The animals come from eight animal shelters in Texas. By transferring animals to Virginia, these shelters can better address the continued needs of homeless animals.” [Patch]

Bonded white mice  Feivel and Tony need a new home to eat cheese, and are the latest adoptees with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

“Mice are very smart and, like dogs, cats or so many other animals, can be trained to do tricks and learn skills,” AWLA spokesperson Gina Hardter told ALXnow. “Some people may think mice are dirty animals, but in fact, they are quite clean and you can often see them grooming themselves or each other.”

Boots is named after “Puss in Boots” in the Shrek movies, and her eyes even get big when she wants attention.

The five-year-old tabby loves bird watching and making biscuits, and she’s up for adoption with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
