The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for Alexandria’s shoreline from midnight Saturday into early Monday morning.
Up to one foot of water above ground level is expected in low-lying areas due to tidal flooding, according to the advisory issued at 5:17 a.m. Saturday.
The Civil War Artillery Day at Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site, scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled due to a rainy weather forecast.
“Historic Alexandria regrets that it has to cancel this weather-dependent event,” the Office of Historic Alexandria said in an email. There is a 60% chance of rain on Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Special Marine Warning in and around Alexandria.
The warning is in effect until 4:15 p.m., and boaters are cautioned to “seek safe harbor immediately” until a series of severe thunderstorms pass.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Alexandria and surrounding areas through 9 p.m. Wednesday as thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall are expected to move through the region.
The watch, issued at 11:57 a.m., covers Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax County and parts of the District of Columbia and Maryland, including Anne Arundel, Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.

The warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m., and NWS says that damaging wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour could cause trees and large branches to fall.

Meteorologists warn that scattered severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing damaging winds throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

The heatwave continues, as the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory and flood watch for Alexandria.
Heat index values of up to 107 degrees are expected in the region, and the advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. The NWS has also issued a Flood Watch, which will be in effect from 3 p.m. into the evening.
