Severe Storms Expected Near End of Trick-or-Treating in Alexandria

A Tornado Watch has been issued for Alexandria and the D.C. region, with severe storms expected near the tail end of tonight’s trick-or-treating.

Alexandria has no official trick-or-treating time, but traditionally little ghouls and goblins prowl the streets in search of free candy between about 6-8 p.m. Forecasters warn that a line of storms packing rain and gusty winds will reach Alexandria around 9 p.m.

If you’ve waited until the last minute to put together your Halloween plans, here’s your guide to events around the area.

The Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Avenue) is planning it’s annual party called Raven’s Night on Saturday, Nov. 2. The “unique soirée” features belly dancing, live music and a pre-show carnival. This year’s theme is “Creature Feature,” an homage to classic iconic movie monsters. Tickets are $25. Doors for the show open at 5 p.m.

Spend Halloween with Edgar Allan Poe in Old Town

Edgar Allan Poe will be returning to the Lyceum (201 S. Washington Street) in a recreation of a 19th-century reading of his stories and poetry.

Well, it’s actually actor David Keltz, but since 1991 Keltz has stepped into Poe’s shoes and performed the grim works of the American poet. This year’s program is scheduled to include stories The Man of the Crowd and The Black Cat, as well as the poems To — (I heed not that my earthly lot), Eldorado, and the famous The Raven.
