Road Closure Near King Street Metro — “Weather permitting, this Fri. Nov. 1, 9:30am-3pm construction work will close Cameron St. btwn Commonwealth & King (red oval). King & Dangerfield (orange lines) will be single lane. Periodic 10 minute total closures will occur. Avoid the area.” [Twitter]

New Boutique Now Open — “When Sarah Bryen and Abigail Wolverton realized they’d been dating the same guy, neither could have imagined they’d be signing a lease on a boutique together less than a year later. Severe Storms Expected Near End of Trick-or-Treating in Alexandria

A Tornado Watch has been issued for Alexandria and the D.C. region, with severe storms expected near the tail end of tonight’s trick-or-treating.

Alexandria has no official trick-or-treating time, but traditionally little ghouls and goblins prowl the streets in search of free candy between about 6-8 p.m. Forecasters warn that a line of storms packing rain and gusty winds will reach Alexandria around 9 p.m.

Alexandria Halloween Events include Belly-Dancing Monsters and Communing With Deceased Pets

If you’ve waited until the last minute to put together your Halloween plans, here’s your guide to events around the area.

The Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Avenue) is planning it’s annual party called Raven’s Night on Saturday, Nov. 2. The “unique soirée” features belly dancing, live music and a pre-show carnival. This year’s theme is “Creature Feature,” an homage to classic iconic movie monsters. Tickets are $25. Doors for the show open at 5 p.m.

Spend Halloween with Edgar Allan Poe in Old Town

Edgar Allan Poe will be returning to the Lyceum (201 S. Washington Street) in a recreation of a 19th-century reading of his stories and poetry.

Well, it’s actually actor David Keltz, but since 1991 Keltz has stepped into Poe’s shoes and performed the grim works of the American poet. This year’s program is scheduled to include stories The Man of the Crowd and The Black Cat, as well as the poems To — (I heed not that my earthly lot), Eldorado, and the famous The Raven.

Bald Eagle Rescue Near Cameron Run — “A bald eagle that appeared to be injured was spotted Wednesday morning on the ground at the Cameron Run Regional Park, near the Metro tracks in Alexandria, Virginia. It seemed like something was wrong with one of its wings.” [WTOP]

Old Town Eatery to Offer Original Menu — “Longtime Old Town Alexandria Italian restaurant Landini Brothers, at 115 King St., is marking its 40th anniversary Oct. 28 by taking diners back to the past. Alexandria to Host Hefty Helping of Halloween Events This Month

(Updated at 4 p.m.) Old Town’s cobwebs are strung and Del Ray’s carved pumpkins are out, which means it’s Halloween time for Alexandria.

The city is playing host to an ample amount of spooky events this year, including family-friendly parades to a tour of mystery and murder.

Alexandria Businesses Holding Costume Drive Ahead of Halloween

Businesses in Alexandria are asking residents to donate costumes for low-income kids ahead of Halloween.

The 13th annual drive is being organized by the Del Ray Business Association (DRBA). Costumes for older kids — “tweens and teens” — are in particular demand, organizers said.
