Over the last few days, Alexandrians have endured an asteroid impact, the tremors of a distant earthquake, and now: a solar eclipse.

At a viewing party at Ben Brenman Park, hundreds of Alexandrians came together to observe the eclipse through special glasses.

🌤️ Today’s weather: Expect mostly sunny skies with a high around 68 and a light southeast wind, which will shift to the south and increase to 5-10 mph in the morning. By Monday night, the sky will become mostly cloudy and the temperature will drop to a low near 52, with a south wind at 3-7 mph.

The City of Alexandria will kick off its 275th Anniversary celebration on Saturday at noon at Waterfront Park. Festivities will include an official proclamation by Mayor Justin Wilson and performances by the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums and Community Little Big Band.  Visitors can also explore historical exhibits and attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the “Buried Ships of Robinson Landing” exhibit at Robinson Landing. 

At Windmill Hill Park at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Mayor Wilson and the City Council will dedicate the first of 275 trees to be planted across the city.

The Eisenhower Partnership is hosting a Rock the Avenue Block Party later this month to bring that eclectic group together.

On Monday, April 8, Alexandria Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities is hosting a gathering to watch the partial solar eclipse.

The viewing party is scheduled for 3-3:45 p.m. at the Old Town Pool (1609 Cameron Street).  The event will include eclipse glasses to view the event safely, along with arts and crafts for the family.

Mark your calendars: Port City Brewing Company is hosting a sip-and-shop event early in May.

On Saturday, May 4, the brewery is collaborating with Made in ALX to host 30 artists from around the city with pop-up shops. The event will be held at the brewery at 3950 Wheeler Avenue.

Alexandria knows how to throw a great parade, and the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 2, should be a good one.

The parade will start at the intersection of King and St. Asaph streets and move east along King Street to Lee Street. From there the parade turns north one block then heads back west along Cameron Street to the Pitt Street intersection.
