Their season might be over, but Alexandria Little Leaguers and their supporters still have something to cheer about during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The nonprofit has raised $5,795 in a GoFundMe campaign to provide food for ALIVE! and Feed The Fight Alexandria, which gives food to local hospitals.

ALIVE! will conduct another food distribution to more than 1,000 families this Saturday, and the nonprofit needs face mask donations for volunteers.
“We received a donation from Yates Dry Cleaning,” ALIVE! Executive Director Jennifer Ayers told ALXnow. “We need more. We tried to order some recently and they’re hard to get. Right now we’re still waiting on them.”

The Spring2ACTion fundraiser for the city’s nonprofits is off to a strong start, with more than $500,000 raised from early giving, according to ACT for Alexandria CEO Heather Peeler.
“This year we are asking every donor as part of the checkout process to make an additional gift to the ACT Now COVID-19 Response Fund,” Peeler said. “So far, that has raised more than $15,000.”
Among the other donations to Inova Alexandria Hospital, from masks to food, the hospital received a shipment of candy and Easter baskets this weekend from convenience store chain CVS.
The company donated $5 million in seasonal treats nationwide as part of an effort to boost spirits at hospitals that are starting to fill up with coronavirus patients. The focus, the company said in a press release, was hospitals, food banks, senior centers, youth programs and other critical resources.

Alexandria City Manager Mark Jinks will formally unveil his $753.3 million fiscal year 2021 operating budget in a virtual meeting on Tuesday, which is 5.8% lower than the $800 million operating budget he proposed before the COVID-19 pandemic. The budget will close an anticipated $92 million shortfall, and includes a hiring freeze, a drastic reduction in capital projects, and reverses a decision to increase taxes by 2 cents.
Hermitage Northern Virginia Resident Tests Positive for COVID-19 — “Because of the precautions already in place, we are hopeful that the potential spread of the virus is limited, but we must continue to practice self-isolation, good hand washing, and the use of appropriate PPE. The Del Ray Citizen’s Association on Wednesday approved an allocation of $2,500 to ALIVE! and $2,500 to Casa Chirilagua.
More than 30 DRCA members participated in the monthly meeting on Wednesday night, which was held via Zoom.
