Alexandria Police are investigating a robbery committed by five people at the Home Depot at 400 S. Pickett Street in the West End.

A Home Depot employee followed five people out of the store on Jan. 17, after they walked past the point of sale and out the exit with a shopping cart full of hand tools, gardening tools, and electric and gas-powered tools, according to a search warrant.

A Maryland man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after being found guilty for five armed robberies through the area, including one at a McDonald’s in Alexandria.

Jon Karl Mcree Fleet, 62, was found guilty of five robberies stretching from Jan. 24 to March 13. On Feb. 11, 2011, Fleet robbed the McDonald’s at 505 South Van Dorn Street.

A 26-year-old Washington, D.C. man has been sentenced to three months in the Alexandria jail after leaving the scene of an accident while driving a stolen car in the West End in January.

Jarrel Bailey was arrested driving a stolen Dodge Challenger on Jan. 3 after Alexandria police attempted to pull him over for reckless driving on Monday, January 3. The Challenger took off at high speed, and then “struck an uninvolved motorist,” according to a search warrant affidavit.

An Alexandria couple pleaded guilty to conspiracy in relation to filing false tax claims for their Maryland-based auto body repair shop, and have been ordered to pay $2.2 million in restitution.

Ercin Kalender, 60, and Lizette Kalender, 44, own Butch’s Auto Body in Capital Heights, and were ordered to pay the $2.2 million as part of their plea agreement, according to an announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Alexandria Police are investigating the stabbing of an employee at the Pizza Hut outside of the business on Sunday, Jan. 16.

Police responded to the Pizza Hut at 1049 W. Glebe Road at around 7:30 p.m. for a report of a stabbing in progress, according to a search warrant.

Yesterday, Gov. Glenn Youngkin visited an Alexandria Safeway for a roundtable discussion only to get heckled for not wearing a mask indoors. There’s even a shirt referencing the incident being produced as a fundraiser. Meanwhile, members of Youngkin’s administration made better headway in meeting with state and federal leaders to discuss increased infrastructure funding for a local bridge project.

A male juvenile was assaulted twice on a DASH bus in December, according to Alexandria Police.

On Dec. 7, the victim reported to police that he was assaulted by an individual and then by a mob. It is not clear where the bus was when the victim was assaulted.

A 43-year Loudoun County man was arrested last month for allegedly pushing his girlfriend and causing her fracture her elbow.

After being wanted for outstanding warrants for more than a month, Thomas Abernathy was arrested on Jan. 20 and charged with malicious wounding and domestic assault and battery. He was released that same day on $1,500 and $500 bonds.

Two Alexandria men were arrested last month for drug possession and allegedly attempting to flee from police in the Landmark area.

The suspects were arrested after getting pulled over in the 6100 block of Edsall Road on Saturday, Jan. 8.
