(Updated 3:15 p.m.) As temperatures drop below freezing, the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority is warning its low-income families that they will be arrested if caught wearing ski masks.

In a Nov. 14 notification to approximately 1,500 low-income households under its watch, ARHA said that the Alexandria Police Department notified them that they will start “enforcing the prohibition against wearing face coverings that hide an individual’s face now that the COVID pandemic is over.”

A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with one felony count of eluding police after allegedly crashing into a car near the Seminary Road exit of Interstate 395.

Just before midnight on Wednesday (Nov. 22), Virginia State Police reported investigating a four-door blue Tesla driving 95 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone on I-395 near the Seminary Road exit. The state trooper attempted to pull the driver over, and he instead took the Seminary Road exit, allegedly ran a red light and smashed into a Honda Civic.

An Alexandria man was walking on the 1700 block of M Street in D.C. on Saturday when he was robbed at gunpoint and beaten by a group of attackers, according to a police report.

The report says that the man, an Alexandria resident, was walking with someone else on M Street just after midnight when four suspects surrounded them.

(Updated 1:55 p.m.) The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the late night robbery of a 7-Eleven convenience store in Old Town.

Police said via dispatch that a Black male wearing a gray shirt, black hoodie, black ski mask, black puffy coat and black and white sneakers walked into the store at 800 Franklin Street, displayed a silver-colored handgun and fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A 40-year-old man suffered a head injury when he was robbed in the West End early this morning, according to scanner traffic.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) was notified at around 2:30 a.m. that a man was beaten and robbed outside an apartment building in the 5700 block of Merton Court, near the intersection with N. Beauregard Street in the Mark Center area.

(Updated at 2:35 p.m.) Alexandria police arrested a West End man on Sunday afternoon for allegedly brandishing a handgun against his neighbor outside of their apartment complex.

The incident occurred at around 2:45 p.m. in a parking lot in the 2200 block of N. Beauregard Street. Police confirmed that there was a brandishing incident by speaking with witnesses at the scene, and the suspect and the victim were screaming at each other, according to the police scanner.

Once again, suspected car thieves have eluded Alexandria police by driving across state lines into Maryland.

At around 10:45 a.m., the Alexandria Police Department discovered a stolen red Kia Sorrento with D.C. tags in the area of Duke Street and Callahan Drive in the Carlyle neighborhood of the city, according to the police scanner. APD reported multiple suspects inside the vehicle.

A 27-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries during a fistfight in Alexandria’s West End on Saturday night, according to APD. APD said today (Wednesday) that the incident is being investigated as a felonious assault.

An Alexandria middle school student allegedly admitted to her parents and police that she sent a threatening message to her school’s Instagram page last month, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

On Oct. 11 (Wednesday), at around 5 p.m., a now-unavailable Instagram account sent a direct message to an Alexandria middle school’s Instagram page and said, “Be prepared for October 12, 2023,” and then said that “11th and 12th grade upper school teachers” were targeted and that there were “many more who must suffer.”

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a robbery at the Bradlee Shopping Center this morning just before 9 a.m. that left one victim injured.

According to scanner traffic, the victim was bleeding from the face after being punched near the McDonalds on the 3600 block of King Street. Scanner traffic said the suspect may have taken the victim’s shoes and wallet.
