The Alexandria Police Department released the identities of the dead victim and suspect in Saturday’s shooting at the Onelife Fitness (305 Hooffs Run Drive) in Carlyle. APD said that the suspect and the victim were “known to each other.”

According to dispatch, the shooting occurred inside the Onelife Fitness at around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.

It’s the season for fireworks, but not in Alexandria.

With the Fourth of July and the City’s birthday celebration (July 13) right around the corner, the Alexandria Fire Department sent out a reminder this week that fireworks are illegal.

Two Alexandria teens have been charged after an 18-year-old was stabbed, tased and beaten in a West End parking lot last month, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

The 16 and 17-year-old suspects were charged with malicious wounding by mob and destruction of property after the May 12 (Sunday) incident that left the 18-year-old victim with a knife wound to his leg.

The Alexandria Police Department has increased its patrols in the West End in an effort to stem a rising tide of violent crimes, illegal drug use and other crimes.

APD announced last week on social media that it is continuing to address “quality-of-life concerns” in the West End with increased patrols in the area. The department also advised residents to call 911 if they see something suspicious, or the APD non-emergency number at 703-746-4444.

An undisclosed amount of liquor was stolen from an Old Town restaurant after a suspect used a brick to smash a glass door, according to staff.

Workers at the restaurant said that at some point overnight a suspect smashed a side door to Mae’s Market & Cafe at 277 S. Washington Street and stole liquor from the bar.

A former Metro driver who used her mother’s Alexandria address to make dozens of fraudulent driver’s licenses, including for herself, pleaded guilty in federal court this week.

The 30-year-old D.C. woman admitted to falsifying documents to get her own Virginia commercial driver’s license, and to using her mom’s Alexandria address to create more than 67 fake licenses for other drivers, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

The suspect in an Arlandria shooting told the Alexandria Police Department that he was acting out of retaliation after the man he allegedly shot grabbed his girlfriend’s arm, according to recently released court records.

Jason Allen Johnson, Jr., 21,  is being held without bond after allegedly shooting a man in the knee near an apartment complex in the 3800 block of Executive Avenue on the afternoon of Sunday, May 19.

Alexandria Police say that no one was arrested after a man was shot in the hand in Arlandria on Friday night, May 31.

APD responded to multiple calls for shots fired at around 9 p.m. and found shell casings on the ground, according to police dispatches. Callers reported to police hearing between six-to-seven gunshots.

A 29-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering his roommate by shooting him in the head as he left for work in the West End.

Dontae Lashaun Drumgold was convicted of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a murder in the 2022 death of 25-year-old Elijah Williams.

A 33-year-old D.C. man was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years in prison for a carjacking that led to a chase with the Alexandria Police Department, a hit-and-run and more.

On Tuesday, Donte Tayvon Thomas was sentenced for his convictions for felony carjacking, felony hit-and-run, felony eluding police and falsely identifying himself to law enforcement.

No arrest was made after a brandishing incident that allegedly occurred in the West End at around 12:30 p.m.

The victim called 911 and said that a man brandished a handgun as she crossed the street in the 500 block of S. Van Dorn Street, according to Alexandria Police Department dispatches.
