A number of drivers were doing donuts in the middle of Arlandria on Saturday night (March 22) and eluded the Alexandria Police Department.

According to radio dispatches, APD officers reported multiple vehicles performing donuts and a large group of people blocking police from the scene.

“I’m at the intersection of Mount Vernon and W. Glebe.,” an APD officer reported to dispatch at around 11:45 p.m. “People are doing donuts and civilians are blocking the road so we don’t get past.”

Another officer reported, “They’re trying to get on top of my car.”

A witness uploaded a video of the incident to the APD evidence portal, according to an APD dispatch.

ALXnow observed at least eight vehicles flee in a line up W. Glebe Road in the direction of Arlington, but then veer off on Old Dominion Boulevard and onto Notabene Drive/Four Mile Road. The detour takes drivers to the intersection of Four Mile Run and Mount Vernon Avenue — just around the corner from the city border at the Arlington Ridge Road/Mount Vernon Avenue Bridge.

A full statement from APD is below.

Saturday evening, at approximately 11:15 p.m. the Alexandria Police Department received a Be-On-the-Lookout (BOLO) from the Fairfax County Police Department regarding numerous vehicles gathering in an intersection and driving recklessly. APD Officers responded to the intersection of Eisenhower Avenue and Clermont Avenue where they first observed vehicles in the intersection driving recklessly and causing traffic disruption. Shortly after officers arrived, the group dispersed, relocating to Mount Vernon and W. Glebe where officers witnessed vehicles being driven recklessly in the intersection.

Officers responded, blocking a portion of the roadway until the vehicles dispersed and left the area. At no time did a member of the public climb upon the officer’s cruiser.
Street takeovers where vehicles block the roadway of an intersection for drivers to perform stunts and burnouts are not only illegal, but they are also dangerous for participants and bystanders. If you have any information or witness reckless driving of this nature, please report it to the APD non-emergency number 703-746-4444.
