Alexandria man tracks down his stolen motorcycle on Facebook Marketplace

After his motorcycle was stolen during a test drive, an Alexandria man tracked it down days later on Facebook Marketplace.

The incident occurred at the victim’s business in the 4900 block of Eisenhower Avenue on Thursday, March 20. The victim listed his blue 2004 Suzuki GSX-R9600 for sale on Facebook Marketplace, and the suspect reached out via Facebook Messenger and asked for a test drive, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit. The suspect allegedly took the bike for a ride and never returned, and on March 25 the victim found the motorcycle listed in another Facebook Marketplace ad.

Alexandria man faces years in prison for allegedly pointing handgun at cousin’s head

An Alexandria man faces serious charges after allegedly pointing a firearm at his cousin at their home in the city’s Potomac West neighborhood.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. in a home in the 300 block of Wesmond Drive on Friday, April 18. A woman, who was not at the scene, called 911 to report that her son was pointing a gun at her niece’s head. The victim called her aunt while the incident was happening, and told her that “her son was pointing a gun at her face,” according to dispatch reports.

APD license plate reader leads to arrest of North Carolina murder suspect

A North Carolina murder suspect was recently arrested in Alexandria and has been charged with murder and robbery with a deadly weapon.

The victim, 25-year-old Jose Alexander Lara Hernandez, was shot to death in Charlotte on April 19. Two days later, the Alexandria Police Department was notified by a license plate reader that a car belonging to the suspect, Danny Cardoza Lara, was located in the parking lot of a hotel in the 100 block of S. Bragg Street in the city’s West End.

Man charged with abduction and assault after naked attack on woman in Old Town North

A woman is safe after allegedly being abducted and assaulted by a naked man along the Mount Vernon Trail in Old Town North earlier this month.

“The suspect pinned both of her forearms down and she fought to break free,” police said a recently released search warrant affidavit. “(The victim) said she realized the suspect was fully naked when he was on top of her and she saw his penis. (The victim) tried to push him away specifically with her right hand to the suspect’s left arm. (The victim) said she yelled and the suspect covered her mouth with his hand. The suspect told her, ‘Do you want to die?'”

Skill games put in ‘murky situation’ after recent ruling, says Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney

A recent ruling in Hanover County dismissing a case against a skill games operator has put the anti-gambling effort into a tailspin in Alexandria.

General District Court Judge Hugh Campbell dismissed a case against a convenience store owner in Hanover County and found that new QVS2 (Queen of Virginia) machines by Pace-O-Matic that are unlocked when customers give clerks cash are not illegal gambling devices. The ruling has sent Alexandria’s Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter and his staff back to the drawing board.

A shooting in Alexandria’s Arlandria neighborhood has left three men injured. The incident occurred on Sunday (April 27) just after 9 p.m. in the area of the 3800 block of Old Dominion Boulevard and the 600 block of Notabene Drive.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) had initially been dispatched to West Glebe Road for reports of gunfire and a report of a victim shot in the back.

Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire sent a note to Cameron Station Civic Association residents after gunfire was reported Thursday morning (April 24) at Ben Brenman Park.

McGuire detailed the incident, and confirmed that multiple gunshots were reported in the 4800 block of Brenman Park Drive. No one was injured and no arrests have been made yet, and APD is asking the public for help in the investigation.

The Alexandria Police Department was alerted of four gunshots in the area of the park at around 2:20 a.m.

Alexandria man charged with attempted murder and felony assault for alleged road rage incidents

More charges have been filed against a 34-year-old Alexandria man accused of firing and brandishing a handgun from his car at other drivers.

Perry Ellis Barmore was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony and released to home detention last month for multiple road rage incidents in Maryland in 2024. On April 18, Barmore was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Maryland State Police and charged with attempted murder and felony assault.
