The Port to Port Beer Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 17, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Port City (3940 Wheeler Avenue). The festival will feature 14 breweries from other water-adjacent cities, including Mieza Blendery and Lost Boy Cider both in Alexandria.

The brewery and taproom at 2429 Mandeville Lane said it will extend its happy hour deals for prime-time Olympic coverage. This year’s Olympics, held in Paris, are scheduled to kick off tomorrow (Friday) and continue through Sunday, Aug. 11.

The new beer is Optimal Witch, described as a “Belgian-style pumpkin ale brewed with spices”, and a play on the popular Optimal Wit.

It’s a question that’s haunted Alexandria since 1816, when a sick woman arrived by ship and died on Oct. 14, and her husband swore the local doctor to secrecy. Her grave in St. Paul’s Cemetery bears no name but tells the story of her passing.
Like yeast in a beer barrel, Alex Lynch has been patient for the last several years.
In June, the D.C. native had enough beer brewed to open Mieza Blendery at 109 Clermont Street in Alexandria’s West End. With 12 distinct flavors this season, Lynch opened his tasting room to the public.
