An Alexandria grand jury indicted a former D.C. police officer on more than two dozen felony charges today (Monday) related to a series of sexual assaults in Alexandria last year.

Timothy Valentin, 30, of Fort Washington, Md., is currently accused of multiple sexual assaults in Alexandria and Maryland that occurred between 2024 and 2025. The suspect, an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department until 2022, faces new charges including rape by force, rape by incapacitation and abduction with intent to defile in connection to three cases in Alexandria last year.

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that killed one man and injured a juvenile in the city yesterday (Wednesday).

According to APD, officers responded to shots fired at the 900 block of N. Patrick Street at around 6:36 p.m. and found a man “inside an apartment building suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, as well as a juvenile man with an apparent gunshot wound.”

The Alexandria Police Department issued an alert at 7:42 a.m. Wednesday advising motorists that work is being performed on the traffic light at the busy intersection. Officers are currently on scene directing traffic to maintain safety and flow.

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) today (June 3) announced that it has concluded a criminal investigation with the arrest of the third and final suspect in a violent shooting incident that occurred in the 800 block of W. Glebe Road on July 30, 2024.

According to APD, Detectives from the Alexandria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have identified and charged 22-year-old Justin McKnight of Alexandria, 22-year-old Demetrius Charlton of Fairfax, and 20-year-old Jhamal Muskelly of Alexandria in connection with the shooting, during which multiple rounds struck an occupied home. All three firearms used in this case have been recovered. No injuries were reported.

Jeffrey Gary has been arrested and charged with assault and battery, sexual battery, and two counts of abduction with force, according to officials at a joint press conference on Monday.

The Alexandria Police Department is asking for help to find Virgie Nadine Goolsby, a 70-year-old woman who went missing Thursday morning.

Goolsby was last seen around 10 a.m. in the 700 block of North Patrick Street. She was wearing a black blouse and black pants at the time.

Alexandria City Council voted to advance proposed changes to the city’s police oversight ordinances Tuesday night (April 22), moving forward recommendations from a council subcommittee that address key issues, including investigation authority and subpoena power.

The ordinance amendments, which passed on first reading in a 6-1 vote, will be docketed for a public hearing and final passage on Saturday, April 26.

The PNC Alexandria Half Marathon will debut in Old Town on Sunday, April 27. It will feature a half-marathon, a 5K, and a kids’ dash.

This event, produced by Pacers Running and sponsored by PNC Bank, is an evolution of the long-running PNC Parkway Classic. The 13.1-mile course begins at Market Square (301 King St.) and extends through Old Town down the George Washington Parkway. Additional roads surrounding City Hall and Market Square will be closed for race set-up.
