A pedestrian was killed in a crash in Old Town North yesterday (Monday), according to Alexandria police and fire radio dispatches.
The Alexandria Police Department responded to the fatal crash involving a pedestrian at St. Asaph and Montgomery Streets around 5:26 p.m. According to radio dispatches, multiple callers reported that the pedestrian was down and not breathing.
Officers found a 62-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving attempts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the striking black Chevrolet Suburban, a 46-year-old man, remained on scene and is cooperating with police. APD has not indicated if charges will be pursued.
The pedestrian’s identity has not been released by APD. The medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to confirm the cause and manner of death.
A Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate.
