A new section of park in Potomac Yard is nearly ready for its public debut.
A new memo (page 8) to the Parks and Recreation Commission said the North Potomac Yard extension of Potomac Yard Park is almost ready to be opened to the public.

On the one hand, it’s very cool that Kamasi Washington is performing at The Birchmere — his new album Fearless Movement is great — along with the Bacon Brothers, but there’s some bad news for Washington and Bacon fans.
The Bacon Brothers, a musical duo featuring Kevin and Michael Bacon, are returning to The Birchmere this weekend. Washington is playing on Wednesday, July 31. Unfortunately: both shows are sold out.
A new hair salon with offerings like laser hair removal opened earlier this month in Old Town.
SEV, a national ‘medspa’ chain that started in California in 2010, opened on July 8 at 106 N. Washington Street, formerly a Chase Bank. The Alexandria location is their first in Virginia.
Hot on the heels of changes to streets near William Ramsay Elementary School, the City of Alexandria is looking to make streets safer near a local Catholic school.
Changes (page 15) to West Glebe Road and Russell Road are headed to the Traffic and Parking Board on Monday, July 22 with the goal of making the intersection near Saint Rita Catholic School safer.

Washington Post highlights Ethiopian restaurant in Van Dorn Shopping Center as great affordable spot

Ethiopian spot Feru Bar and Restaurant in the Van Dorn Shopping Center (512 S. Van Dorn Street) recently won a spot on Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema’s top five great affordable restaurants around the region (shoutout to Patch for spotting it).
Sietsema praised not only the awaze tibs — a meat stew dish — but the down-to-earth atmosphere of the restaurant and the hard work of owner Firehiwot Bireka. Sietsema also praised the vegetarian kitfo with diced mushrooms, jalapenos and mitmita.
