The City of Alexandria is hosting an event this weekend that will let local drivers get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle and take them for a spin.
The Electric Vehicle Ride and Drive is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Chinquapin Park (3210 King Street).

Trusts are particularly helpful for individuals who have assets that are potentially going through probate, own property across several states, or have minor children.
A will, also known as a last will and testament, is a legal document specifying how the will maker wishes to handle asset distribution and other affairs after their death. A will typically includes all of the principal’s assets, such as real estate, vehicles, and other property, and usually a list of debts. A will may also provide directions for a funeral or memorial service.
Usually, every will must go through a probate court before execution. In some states, it may be possible to avoid probate under specific conditions. Certain assets, such as insurance policies and retirement accounts, may, if planned properly, pass directly to named beneficiaries without probate. (more…)
Kwakai Frazier’s mom says her son had no enemies and was at the wrong place at the wrong time when he was shot and killed last Thursday night (Sept. 19) in Alexandria’s Braddock neighborhood. She also says that police carried her son from the crime scene to an ambulance, and fears that doing so could have led to his death.
In a vigil that lasted more than an hour, a large, silently respectful crowd laid flowers, candles and balloons in the courtyard where the 25-year-old Frazier was shot. Frazier and two others were shot, and Frazier later succumbed to his injuries.
Movement was restricted inside Alexandria City High School (ACHS) earlier this morning as police investigated an alleged threat related to the school building.
Around 11:30 a.m., Principal Alexander Duncan said ACHS administration and the Alexandria Police Department (APD) completed a threat assessment and determined the building is safe and the threats were unfounded.

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt said the school division is investigating threats reported against the local school division on social media.
No schools are currently closed as a result of the threats. Kay-Wyatt said in a message to the ACPS on Monday that the threats were not school-specific and are all being reported second-hand.
Olympic champion Noah Lyles received a hero’s welcome back home in Alexandria today.
The 27-year-old was greeted by city and school leaders, as well as hundreds of cheering fans at his alma mater, Alexandria City High School.
A man was killed by electrocution in Del Ray today while working in a tree with a chainsaw, according to dispatch reports.
The incident occurred at around 10:10 a.m. in the area of West Mount Ida Avenue and Hickory Street. The man was in the tree with a chainsaw when witnesses told the Alexandria Fire Department that he was electrocuted when a branch fell and hit a power line, according to dispatch.
The Alexandria Police Department (APD) said 25-year-old Alexandria resident Kwakia Frazier, one of the victims in a Braddock neighborhood shooting last night, has died.
The shooting occurred around 8:14 p.m. at 1221 Wythe Street on Thursday night. Police said Frazier and another adult victim, a 46-year-old city resident, were transported to a hospital. A third person, a 15-year-old boy, was grazed by a bullet and received medical treatment on the scene.
