In an investigation update issued on Friday evening, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) said a third dog owner has come forward and said their pet died shortly after a stay at the Potomac Yard PetSmart boarding facility.

The investigation started with an investigation into a three-year-old Aussiedoodle — with no history of health problems and a clean check-up just weeks earlier — who was dropped off dead at a veterinarian’s office after being boarded at PetSmart’s PetsHotel.

The J.D. Vance story was so big that the March 23 story about Vance being welcomed to Del Ray with a ‘yarn bombing‘ in response to his anti-LGBTQ positions was the eighth most read story this week.


Shirlington Circle bridge has been closed for construction work for a few days before, and was closed from Saturday to Tuesday this week, but the bridge is going on what may be its longest hiatus yet.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said the bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 28.


Former Commanders owner Dan Snyder has put his Mount Vernon mansion up for sale at an astonishing $60 million asking price.

The home is an eight-bedroom, nine-and-a-half-bath mansion at 7979 E Boulevard Drive with 16,000 square feet and a 16.5-acre lot. The home has an Alexandria address, but is solidly in not-Alexandria — also known as Fairfax County.


With teen pregnancy rates on the rise in Alexandria’s Hispanic community, we couldn’t help but wonder: what is the city doing to address teen pregnancy trends?

The City of Alexandria just released its annual Report Card on Sex Ed for All — providing an update on the Alexandria Campaign on Adolescent Pregnancy (ACAP) and other programs that aim to ensure “young people have complete and culturally appropriate sexual health information at age-appropriate levels and access to sexual and reproductive health care services.”


Alexandria’s Summer Sidewalk Sale is returning to Old Town and Del Ray next month, followed shortly by Alexandria Restaurant Week.

The annual Alexandria Summer Sidewalk Sale is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10, according to Visit Alexandria. The streets around Old Town and Del Ray will likely be lined with local boutiques setting up shop outside of their storefronts and offering discounted summer merchandise. A new memo (page 8) to the Parks and Recreation Commission said the North Potomac Yard extension of Potomac Yard Park is almost ready to be opened to the public.

Precipitation chance stands at 20%. Moving into Thursday night, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected before 8pm, followed by isolated showers between 8pm and 11pm. The sky will be partly cloudy, with a low of about 69°F, and a north wind at around 7 mph. Precipitation chance increases to 30% later in the night.
