If you’re looking to cross the Woodrow Wilson Bridge tonight, be aware that it’s going to be opening just after midnight.

The city announced via Twitter that the bridge along Interstate 495 will close for about 15-to-20 minutes starting at 12:01 a.m. on Friday (April 25).


The City of Alexandria observed its 36th annual Days of Remembrance ceremony on Thursday (April 24) to commemorate victims of the Holocaust at Market Square in front of City Hall.

The ceremony featured a candle lighting, prayers, and reflections on the importance of remembrance and action against hatred.

On Tuesday, Alexandria’s outgoing poet laureate was praised by the City Council for her literary impact on the city. For the last three years, Azzam has written and read 23 original poems at the city’s birthday celebration and other significant events with thousands in the audience. She’s led poetry readings and workshops, visited schools, and judged poetry contests.


No injuries after multiple gunshots were reported early this morning in the area of Ben Brenman Park in Alexandria’s West End.

The Alexandria Police Department was alerted of four gunshots in the area of the park at around 2:20 a.m.


Around 150 students from Alexandria City High School participated in a financial literacy workshop at the Minnie Howard campus on Monday (April 21). Wells Fargo and the Society for Financial Education and Professional Development, Inc. (SFEPD) organized the event as part of the Hands on Banking Initiative.

Students received personalized financial profiles and had to manage expenses within a set budget.


Virginia ranks 11th nationwide for housing affordability and homebuilding efforts, according to a new Realtor.com report released today (April 24).

The state receives a B-grade in the “Grading the States: Affordability & Homebuilding Report Cards,” which evaluates all 50 states on their ability to tackle housing challenges and meet future supply needs.

AlexRenew is proposing a $258.3 million budget for fiscal year 2026, along with a two-year rate adjustment to fund ongoing infrastructure investments, including the RiverRenew program.

The wastewater treatment authority plans a 5.0% rate increase beginning July 1, 2025, followed by a 5.7% increase starting July 1, 2026. For the average residential customer using 4,000 gallons of water monthly, this translates to approximately $2.76 more per month in the first year and an additional $3.31 per month in the second year.


Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) has released new redistricting maps for elementary and middle schools.

The plans, now called Square, Circle, and Triangle, were presented at a Redistricting Hybrid Community Meeting on Tuesday (April 22).


More charges have been filed against a 34-year-old Alexandria man accused of firing and brandishing a handgun from his car at other drivers.

Perry Ellis Barmore was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony and released to home detention last month for multiple road rage incidents in Maryland in 2024. On April 18, Barmore was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Maryland State Police and charged with attempted murder and felony assault.
