Woodbridge man dies in Alexandria police custody after public intoxication arrest

Allan F. Tucker II, 32, of Woodbridge died in police custody at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center on Friday evening, hours after officers arrested him for public intoxication following reports of a disturbance at an apartment complex.

Alexandria Police responded to multiple 911 calls at approximately 5:07 p.m. reporting a man running through hallways in the 2800 block of North Beauregard Street, yelling and knocking on doors, according to a press release issued early Saturday morning.

Officers located the man in the hallway and worked to de-escalate the situation before arresting him for public intoxication, police said. He was transported to the detention center, where he later required medical assistance.

Despite life-saving efforts by police officers and medical personnel, the man died at the scene, according to the release.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Following standard protocol for officer-involved critical incidents resulting in death, the regional Critical Incident Response Team is conducting the criminal investigation. The team comprises investigators from other regional law enforcement agencies independent of the Alexandria Police Department.

Alexandria Police updated the case Saturday afternoon, identifying the man and providing additional details about the ongoing investigations.

The Alexandria Police Department Office of Professional Accountability is conducting a separate administrative investigation concurrent with the CIRT investigation, following internal procedures in accordance with the Independent Police Auditor, who is conducting an independent investigation.

The department has not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding Tucker’s death.
