The Air Traffic Control Association has just landed a 10-year lease for a new location at King Street Station (225 Reinekers Lane).

The nonprofit, professional association — not to be confused with the D.C.-based National Air Traffic Controllers Association labor union — focuses on “progress in the science of air traffic control and the preservation of a safe flight environment.” The move puts the headquarters just blocks away from the prior headquarters at 1101 King Street.

An old brick building at 215 N. Payne Street is in the middle of conversion into a new “flexible workspace” called The Loop.

Developer Braddock Commercial, whose website indicates that their sole project seems to be this new coworking space, said clients will be able to pick out their own furnishings and furniture for the offices at The Loop.

(Updated 4/5/21) Elena Delle Donne from the Washington Mystics has had two big wins this year.

The team won the WNBA championship last night (Thursday), but earlier this summer Delle Donne won city approval to bump the fence of her Old Town home further into the public right of way.

A bridge spanning the last gap on the Alexandria side of the Four Mile Run Trail has been put into place, but the trail remains impassable for pedestrians.

“The bridge installation does complete the restoration project in this portion of the park,” said a spokesperson for the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities. “The installation is complete and its opening is pending final inspections. We anticipate it being open in two weeks.”

Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery is coming to a house in Del Ray.

The national chain is opening a new location at 1506 Mount Vernon Avenue, immediately next door to Junction Bakery and Bistro. Prior to being a cupcakery, the location was Cloud 9 Therapeutic Skin Care, which has since moved up the street to 2101 Mount Vernon Avenue.

A festival celebrating Alexandria’s maritime history is planned for this Saturday (Oct. 12) at Waterfront Park (1 King Street).

The Portside in Old Town Fall Festival, hosted by Visit Alexandria, is scheduled to run from 1-7 p.m., rain or shine. The event is free to attend and has a variety of maritime activities, live music and more lined up.

Construction is now underway at a mixed-use development just north of the Braddock Road Metro station.

Braddock Gateway Phase II and Phase III broke ground last Friday at 1200 N. Fayette Street, according to an employee at Carmel Partners, the investment company behind Phase III of the project.

The Bicycle Pro Shop location at 3240 Duke Street is closing down and moving its inventory to other locations throughout the region.

The store is in the midst of closing sales, offering 30-50% off on some items. There are a few mountain bikes left in the store, and a table full of miscellaneous bicycle accessories, but we’re told most of the bicycles are being shipped off to other locations.
