The owners of a historic townhouse in Old Town with ground floor retail want to expand the property with a 700-square-foot addition and use it as their primary residence.

Plans to redevelop 107 N. Fairfax Street will head to the Planning Commission on Thursday, Oct. 9. The four-story townhouse was built in 1800, and is located in the city’s Old and Historic District. It’s located directly across from City Hall (301 King Street), and the first floor is home to dessert and coffee shop Dolci Gelati.

Leasing has launched for a 199-unit luxury office-to-residential conversion development at 1101 King Street in Old Town.

Plans to convert the seven-story 1980s-era office building were unveiled in 2023 and approved last year, after which property owner American Real Estate Partners (AREP) announced that leasing would start in summer 2025. Now, the 200,000-square-foot property known as CityHouse Old Town is offering a range of 525-square-foot studios-to-three-bedroom apartments with dens and private wraparound terraces.

More than 70 vendors have signed up to sell their vintage goods at the upcoming Del Ray Vintage and Flea Market on Saturday, Sept. 13.

The outdoor event is held every second Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.in the parking lots of Del Ray Psych & Wellness (1900 Mount Vernon Avenue), the Salvation Army (1804 Mount Vernon Avenue) and at the Corner of  Mount Vernon and E. Custis Avenues. If the weather holds up, organizer Amy Eggers says she expects a big turnout. She also says that more than 2,000 people attended the market in August.

There’s a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 12 for a new audiologist (ear doctor) office in Old Town.

Northern Virginia Audiology Doctors formally opened their Alexandria Hearing Studio (918 Prince Street) to the public at the end of July. They will hold a ribbon cutting on Friday, Sept. 13, from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.

A 34-year-old Alexandria-area man is being held without bond after the alleged carjacking of a delivery driver in the Groveton neighborhood of Fairfax County.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. in the 3300 block of Lockheed Boulevard on Monday, Aug. 25. Virginia State Police located the vehicle in the City of Alexandria and arrested David Lewis during a traffic stop.

The Oswald Durant Center (1605 Cameron Street) in Old Town will be closed from Sunday, Aug. 31, until Friday, Sept. 5, to undergo annual maintenance and cleaning.

“This brief closure ensures that our facility remains safe, clean, and welcoming for all who use it. During this time, no programs, rentals, or public access will be available,” the city said in a statement. “We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we complete this essential upkeep.”

Dozens of Alexandria-based nonprofits seeking assistance will be on hand at the second-annual Community Volunteer Fair next month.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, Volunteer Alexandria and JustServe will host the free, family-friendly event inside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (2810 King Street). From 2 to 4 p.m., representatives from more than 45 nonprofits will showcase their services.

Old Town Sandwich shop will reopen soon after undergoing a two-week interior renovation.

The longstanding business at 127 S. Peyton Street closed for interior work on Friday, Aug. 22, and will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 2, according to a note left on the front door.

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the early morning burglary of a tobacco shop on King Street in Old Town.

APD was called at around 5:30 a.m. by a passerby who found that the glass front door of Alexandria Vape and Tobacco (1213 King Street) had been smashed, according to dispatch reports. Police found the owner of the shop, who said that two suspects smashed the front door and then fled the scene, the owner told ALXnow.

After years in development, The Art League will celebrate the opening of two new locations for art classes in Old Town North with a block party.

The free, family-friendly event will be held at the new Slaters Lane Annex (800 Slaters Lane) at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, featuring art demonstrations, food, and ice cream bowls created by local artists, among other activities.
