Alexandria police searched for 2 suspects in S. 28th Street shooting that injured 1

Alexandria Police searched Tuesday evening for two suspects who shot a man twice in Alexandria, prompting a multi-agency manhunt involving K-9 units.

The shooting occurred around 5:06 p.m. near the 3200 block of South 28th Street, with the victim found on the ground in front of 3220 S. 28th St. suffering gunshot wounds to the abdomen and arm, witnesses said.

At 5:59 p.m., Alexandria Police confirmed the incident on social media, stating: “APD officers are on scene in the 3200 block of S. 28th Street where a shooting occurred. One person suffered a gunshot wound & was transported for medical treatment. Fairfax One is in the air assisting. Please avoid the area.”

Police described the suspects as a Black male wearing a black hat, purple hoodie, black pants and black shoes, and a Hispanic male with a black hat, white medical mask, black shirt, black shorts and black shoes. Both were last seen heading south toward the park.

Witnesses who observed the shooting from a nearby balcony said they saw two men run from the scene after hearing gunshots. The victim, described as a man in his mid-20s, exited his Honda vehicle after being shot and asked bystanders to call 911.

“We heard a shot,” one witness told ALXnow. “We came out on our balcony and we saw two guys run off that way. Down the hill.”

According to witnesses, the victim knew his attackers, which may be key to the investigation.

Alexandria police established a perimeter near Hampton and Beauregard streets and worked with Arlington County police since the incident occurred near the jurisdictional border. Arlington County’s K-9 unit attempted to track the suspects.

Fairfax County’s helicopter unit was called to assist with the aerial search. Dispatch later said that it was not available.

The victim was conscious when transported by emergency medical services. Several residents helped apply pressure to his wounds while waiting for paramedics to arrive, according to witnesses.

Police reviewed security camera footage from nearby buildings and asked residents to avoid the area during the search.

The victim’s identity and condition were not released. Police did not disclose a motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Alexandria Police Department.

This is a developing story.
