Power Outages Persist in Alexandria

Update at 4:40 p.m. — The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and Port City Brewing have both reopened. AWLA will be open for business and adoptions until 7 p.m. The storm-related outage near Inova Alexandria Hospital is still ongoing.

Earlier: Some 250 Dominion customers in Alexandria are still in the dark following yesterday’s storms.

(Updated at 1:45 p.m.) Firefighters from Arlington and Alexandria are on scene of an apartment fire in Arlandria.

The fire broke out at a garden-style apartment building on the 3800 block of Old Dominion Blvd shortly before 1 p.m.

More than 3,750 Dominion customers in Alexandria are in the dark after a stormy Halloween night.

Windy weather may have contributed to the outages, which are concentrated in the West End and along Duke Street.

City: Avoid Waters of Four Mile Run

Due to a reported oil spill near the Arlington/Fairfax County border, Alexandrians are being encouraged to avoid the waters of Four Mile Run.

In a press release today, the city says people and pets should steer clear of the stream for the next 24-48 hours. Fishing is also being strongly discouraged.

Severe Storms Expected Near End of Trick-or-Treating in Alexandria

A Tornado Watch has been issued for Alexandria and the D.C. region, with severe storms expected near the tail end of tonight’s trick-or-treating.

Alexandria has no official trick-or-treating time, but traditionally little ghouls and goblins prowl the streets in search of free candy between about 6-8 p.m. Forecasters warn that a line of storms packing rain and gusty winds will reach Alexandria around 9 p.m.

Power Outages Reported in Seminary Hill

The power is out in part of Alexandria’s Seminary Hill neighborhood.

Dominion is reporting just under 1,400 customers without electricity as a result of a broken pole, according to the company’s outage map.
