King Arthur Baking Company is setting its sights on later this year for the opening of its permanent location in Old Town Alexandria.
The centuries-old company selling flour, bakeware and other baking supplies will open at 617 King Street in fall rather than late summer as originally anticipated. A King Arthur Baking Company spokesperson told ALXnow the Old Town location will have a dedicated baking school and event space.
“We’re especially excited to expand to offer hands-on classes — led by our expert instructors—to help bakers of all levels learn, practice, and deepen their skills,” the spokesperson said. “The space will also have a small event space allowing us to host private events, birthday parties, and community gatherings.”
Preparations for the new location come as King Arthur Baking Company’s popular pop-up store at Fairfax Corner is closing June 25. The spokesperson said the instructional side of the business resonated with customers in Fairfax.
“While it’s always bittersweet to close a pop-up, we truly hope to see many of our Fairfax customers again in Alexandria,” the spokesperson said. “It’s a community we’ve really valued being part of, and we’re looking forward to building on those relationships in this next chapter.”
King Arthur Baking Company has its flagship location in Norwich, Vt., another baking school in Skagit Valley, Wash. and a pop-up in Denver. Updates on the new Alexandria store will be available by texting BAKEVA to 27820.
