Fresh Market’s Alexandria store is staying put as other N. Va. location closes

As another Fresh Market store in the Northern Virginia region prepares to close, the Alexandria location isn’t going anywhere.

A Fresh Market spokesperson told ALXnow no changes are planned for the Alexandria store at Bradlee Shopping Center (3680 King Street). The store is one of the anchor businesses at the shopping center, adjacent to a Safeway grocery store to the east.

That update came after FFXnow reported the grocery chain will close its Vienna store on May 31, with a spokesperson citing a decision not to renew its lease.

The Fresh Market dates back to 2014 in Alexandria, replacing a Giant Food store that closed in 2013, according to Patch. When the Vienna store closes, the chain will have 12 locations remaining in Virginia.

The Alexandria and Vienna stores are the only ones in Northern Virginia, although new locations are in the works at the West Falls development in Falls Church and the Midline at Reston Station development in Reston. No opening timelines for the new stores have been announced.

Bradlee Shopping Center is also gaining a new business — Chord Bread and Bottle (2690 J King Street), under the same ownership as Slaters Market (1552 Potomac Greens Drive) and Union Sandwich Company (101 N. Union Street). The business, taking over the former Unwined wine shop space, will serve sandwiches, soups, salads and wine, and will offer a wine club and catering packages. An opening date has not been announced.
