New sandwich and wine shop in Bradlee Shopping Center plans spring opening

A new sandwich and wine shop is opening this spring in the Bradlee Shopping Center.

Chord Bread and Bottle is planning to open at 2690 J King Street by the end of April, owner Scott Shirley told ALXnow. The vacant property, formerly Unwined wine shop, will first need to undergo interior renovations, he said.

“We’re excited to become your new local spot for everyday provisions — thoughtful sandwiches made with good bread and honest ingredients, and a curated selection of wines to enjoy any day of the week,” says a note on the front door. “It’s never about excess — just simple things done right, the essentials elevated with ease, and always hitting the right note.”

Shirley also owns Slaters Market (1552 Potomac Greens Drive), which he opened in Old Town North in 2020, and Union Sandwich Company, which opened at 101 N. Union Street in 2023.

An estimated $150,000 of interior work includes building a pick-up counter, knocking down a wall and installing a prep kitchen, updating the existing bathroom and installing a window counter, according to a commercial building permit posted outside the storefront.

The maximum seating for the shop will be 12 customers, according to the building permit.

Chord Bread and Bottle published a Virginia ABC legal notice in The Alexandria Times earlier this month.
