Alexandria native Claire Constant, captain of the DC Power women’s professional soccer team, is heading to the hall of fame.
The Alexandria City Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame, that is.
This year’s ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame inductees were approved by the School Board Thursday (May 21), and the induction ceremony will take place October 10.
The ACPS Athletic Hall of Fame already includes legendary athletes, such as Olympic champion sprinter Noah Lyles and Shirley Marshall-Lee, the world’s first African American female scuba diver.
Below are the 2026 inductees, via ACPS:
The 1954 George Washington High School Boys Crew Team
- The members on both crews were Bob Kane, Bill Hammaker, George Dunham, Roy Gravatte, Mel Fortney, Jim Swann, Bob Moore, John Sullivan, Paul Sheridan, Dick Rinker, Russ Dunn, Harry Miller, Curtis Adkins and Al Phillipe
- The crews won the 1954 National School Boy Rowing Championship and the Stotesbury Cup
- Members of both crews represented the Old Dominion Boat Club in the summer of 1954 and won the Intermediate Eight race at the national Amateur Oarsman National Championships
The 1993 T.C. Williams High School Boys 4×100 Meter Relay Team
- First U.S. high school team to win the Penn Relays Championship of America 4 X 100 meter relay event
- Winning time of 40.56 in front of more than 42,000 fans at Franklin Field in Philadelphia
- Members included: Anthony Holley, Carlos Samuels, Bryan Drummond and Dewand Lowery
Thomas Boggan – Cross Country, Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field, T.C. Williams High School, Class of 1985
- First Team All-Met
- All-District, All-Region and All-State in multiple events
- Two-time District and Regional Champion in 1000M, 800M, 1600M and 4 X 400 Relay
- 2nd Place Penn Relays 1500 Meters
- Full Scholarship(Track and Academic) to the University of Pittsburgh
- Big East Champion 4 X 800 Meter Relay 1986
- Multiple time All Big East team selection
- Graduated with a degree in Engineering and has worked as a System Engineer at HPE Aruba, Network Engineer at Dell Computer Corporation and Alion Science & Technology

- Three-time First Team All-Met
- Four-year starter at UVA
- Helped Haitian National Team qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Jesse Gipson – Cross Country, Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field, T.C. Williams High School, Class of 1991
- Three-time All-Met selection
- 1990 Virginia State Champion in the 500 Meters (2nd fastest time in the nation)
- 1990 State Champion Cross Country (Co-Captain)
- 1990 Regional Champion 300 and 500 Meters
- Four-year member of the Georgetown University Track Team
- 1992 Big East Champion (Outdoor Track)
- 1993 IC4A Champion (Indoor Track)
- Combat Veteran (Operation Enduring Freedom & Operation Iraqi Freedom), and served as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps
Louis Johnson – Coach, Football, Basketball, Baseball, Track & Field, Parker-Gray High School, 1939-65
- Head Coach for football, basketball, baseball, track & field
- Member of the Alexandria African-American Hall of Fame
- Member of the West Virginia State Athletic Hall of Fame
- Gymnasium at Charles-Houston Recreation Center named in his honor
- Widely regarded as the most influential role model in the African-American community for more than 25 years
Roland Scott – Football, Basketball, Parker-Gray High School, Class of 1957
- First and only player from Parker-Gray to be named First Team All-Met in 1957
- VIA All state player on both offense and defense
- Threw 13 touchdowns (9 for 50 yards or more) as a quarterback
- School record of 9.9 seconds in the 100 yard dash
- Member of 3 consecutive Virginia State Champion basketball teams (1955, 1956, 1957)
- 1957 Basketball team was ranked #1 in the Washington Post ● Led Parker-Gray to the National Negro High School Tournament in Nashville
- Earned basketball scholarship to Tennessee State University
Tyrone Shaw – Basketball, T.C. Williams High School, Class of 1983
- First Team All-State, First Team Washington Post All-Met
- All Region and All District
- Team Captain
- Went on to star at San Jacinto Junior College and West Virginia University
Verna Wyatt – Track and Cross County, T.C. Williams High School, Class of 1980
- Northern District Cross Country Champion with a time of 19.21
- Northern District Champion 1978 1600 meters
- Northern District Champion 2-Mile Run
