Spring2ACTion eclipses goal and raises $3.5 million for Alexandria nonprofits

ACT for Alexandria has done it again. On Wednesday, Spring2ACTion, the biggest day of giving in Alexandria, raised more than $3.4 million for 198 area nonprofits.

Spring2ACTion is the main annual fundraiser for most participating nonprofits. ACT for Alexandria eclipsed its $2.5 million goal for the event, which drew participation from more than 7,000 donors, 198 nonprofits and more than 60 businesses.

The final tally will keep changing as donations are being allowed on the Spring2ACTion website until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.

“Wow, Alexandria! You showed up and showed out!” ACT for Alexandria said on Facebook. “We exceeded our $2.5 million goal, and gifts are still coming in. For 16 years, Spring2ACTion has been a powerful reminder of what’s possible when community comes together.”

Spring2ACTion has raised nearly $30 million over the last 16 years.

The top three recipients are Casa Chirilagua with $79,964, King Street Cats with $63,740 and ALIVE! with $55,506.

“Strong nonprofits are more important than ever as we continue to navigate ongoing uncertainty and challenges,” Heather Peeler, the president and CEO of ACT for Alexandria, said in a release. “By giving together and working collaboratively, we are helping to stabilize vital services and advance the public good. Thank you for standing with us and supporting our local nonprofits and the community we love.”
