The city of Alexandria will kick off the return of its ALX Jazz Fest Pop-Up Series on Sunday, Sept. 7, with a free afternoon of live music and art at The Market @ Southern Towers, located at 4901 Seminary Road.
Jazz trumpeter Alex Parchment will headline the event alongside spoken word artist Prophecy Poet, bringing live jazz performances to the weekly farmers market setting. The Mobile Art Lab will offer hands-on art projects from noon to 2 p.m., followed by musical performances from 2 to 4 p.m. Attendees can enjoy the entertainment while browsing the market’s fresh produce, baked goods and artisan vendors.
The ALX Jazz Fest Pop-Up Series is produced by the city’s Office of the Arts, a division of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. The project receives partial support from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and all events in the series are offered free to the public.
